Henry LU4DXU departed from Buenos Aires on January 15 th, and
travelled 3.190 Km to de city of Ushuaia on the furthest south
point
of Argentina, where he
will be making the final arrangements to board
“Almirante Irizar” icebreaker, on January 26 th and sail
to the Orkney Islands. Exactly to Laurie Island. It is
estimated that he will arrive there on January 29 th. He
will operate with the AY1ZA special call granted by the CNC,
from January 29 th to February 22 th, when he will be,
probably, returning to the continent. Henry
travelled with the equipment supplied by Multiradio
S.A. a TS-570, an AL-811 amplifier and he takes a JVP34DX antenna for 10-15-20 metres. He will also use dipoles antennas and a rhombic antenna which
is already in the base.

29-Feb
23:00 UTC February 22nd. at night Horacio got on board
of the Almirante Irizar Icebreaker for a three days
trip to Usuahia, Tierra del Fuego and early in the
morning of February 26th. by plane to Buenos Aires. He made
almost 5000 Qsos. during 23 days in South Orkneys Is. He
could not operate as he wanted due to a local interference
with the Official radio of the base.
29-Jan
04:00 UTC Fortunately, Henry had a quiet voyage when
crossing the strait of Drake. The "Almirante Irizar"
icebreaker is anchored in front of Laurie island's cost. Henry
is waiting for the helicopter to load the boxes and take them
to the island, this will probably take place about 08:00 utc.
Henry hopes to do his first qso´s in the night.
10-FEB 04:00 UTC was on holiday for one week,
and now I am back. I will update you with the latest
developments. Henry is having some interference difficulties
with the official base station which is establishing lots of
contacts with the continent because of the 100 th
anniversary of this base which will be celebrated in the next
days. For this reason, he is not making as many QSO’s as he
wishes, and is not observing the frequencies pre-established
in the table below. The propagation condition is not helping
him either.
I receive e-mails asking for the log, but the problem is that
there is no Internet on the island for Henry to send me the
log. He will probably send it to me via packet, or failing
that, I will place it on the Internet.
